Director of Human Resources

Our Boston client is seeking a Director of Human Resources to direct all people functions for their 400+ employee multi-state/location organization. The Director is responsible for strategic HR planning and implementation of programs, benefits, and policies to provide the best talent available while positioning the company as an “Employer of Choice.” This position directly supervises three HR professionals.

 

Responsibilities
* Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the HR function and performance.
* Participate in the development of plans and programs as a strategic partner with a focus on the impact on people.
* Translate the strategic and tactical business plans into HR strategic and operational plans.
* Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action in relation to the attraction, motivation, development, and retention of staff.
* Create staffing strategies and implementation plans/programs to identify talent within and outside the company.
* Develop progressive and proactive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives, and rewards for effective performance, as well as programs that utilize the employee/company partnership for the short and long-range health and welfare protection of the employees.
* Drive the annual Affirmative Action Plan process to ensure compliance with AAP objectives and guidelines. Create programs to allow the corporation to embrace applicants and employees of all backgrounds and to permit the full development and performance of all employees.
* Develop HR planning models to identify competency, knowledge, and talent gaps, and develop specific programs for filling those gaps: talent management through proper succession planning programs for key contributor and management positions, training and development programs for preparing employees for more significant responsibilities, and general business development programs to enhance employee knowledge and understanding of the overall business and industry.
* Continually assess the competitiveness of all programs and practices against relevant/comparable companies, industries, and markets.
* Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and staff to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues.
* Develop appropriate policies and programs for effective management of the people resources of the corporation: employee relations, affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee complaints, external education, career development, etc.
* Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures to improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation, including the management of the HRIS and necessary reports for critical analyses of the HR function and people resources.
* Maintain knowledge of HR policies, programs, laws, and issues. Understand the differences between various state and federal regulations, policies, and programs, and coordinate the integration of all such programs.
* Act as a key participant on the Safety Committee, setting and communicating annual safety goals and programs. Partner with the Worker’s Compensation insurer to address all claims and resolve any issues, and administer the Annual Safety Incentive Program.
* Manage the budget and other financial measures of the HR department.

 

Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree required with a Master’s degree preferred.
* 10+ years of HR experience within a generalist environment, including five years at a managerial level.
* Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
* Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment, wage, and salary laws and regulations with the ability to interpret and advise on the application of EEO/AA laws.
* Ability to analyze and assess training and development needs with knowledge of organizational development theory and practices.
* Experience in the design, development, and implementation of salary administration plans and benefit programs. * Ability to negotiate and manage agreements and alternative dispute resolution processes.
* Previous experience in writing contracts, letters of agreement, job descriptions, etc.
* Experience in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
* Knowledge of HRIS.
* Strategic planner with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus.
* Well-organized and self-directed individual who is “politically savvy” and a team player.
* Intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
* Educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor.
* Excellent facilitator experienced in resolving conflicts between different parties in a dispute.
* Decisive individual who possesses a strategic focus as well as an operational, implementation, and detail-oriented perspective.
* Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes while simultaneously managing several projects.
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex HR related documents.
* Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
* Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to employee groups and management at all levels of the company.
